Welcome to English Class!
Congratulations for deciding to continue your education! Welcome to James Lyng Adult Centre,
and welcome to your English class!
Ok, so now we know where we are.
But, how did we get here?
And, where are we going?
Everyone has their own reasons for continuing their education. Each of us has a story about how we got here, and each of us has our own goals and expectations for the future.
So, before you begin this course, please take a moment to think about the following:
1. What are your goals and expectations for this class?
How will you define “success”?
What will you need to do in order to achieve this success?
What obstacles will you need to overcome?
Will you be satisfied to simply “pass the class”...
...or are you excited to learn something new?
2. Hard work, discipline, and dedication are always rewarded, even if the rewards are not immediately seen, or understood.
3. It is always easier to work hard and be disciplined when our goals are realistic, and when they are clearly articulated.
Having short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals is important to help keep us focused and motivated, especially when we are feeling low.
So ask yourself: What do you want your life look like next year?
In 5 years?
In 10 years?
Now think: How am I going to make this happen?
